Trojans Pick Up Split at Osprey Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Troy softball (3-3-1) split its first two games at the 2014 Osprey Invitational, hosted by North Florida.

The Trojans used a dominant performance by pitcher Sara Mock and a pair of home runs to take down Southern Illinois (2-3), 5-0 in its first game. Troy ran into a tough pitcher in game two, falling to host North Florida (5-1) 3-0.

The Trojans return to the field tomorrow when they take on Savannah State at 11:15 a.m. and tournament host North Florida at 3:45 p.m.

Troy 5, Southern Illinois 0

The Trojans got on the board in the top of the fifth inning with a solo shot to left field by Chandler Griffin.

Troy would add four more in the sixth inning. Erica Davis led the inning off with a double and advanced to third on a single by Heather Johnston. Following a pair of outs, Davis was brought home on a single by Ashley Rainey.

Next up, Ebony Wright drew a walk. Meg Willis came into the game as a pinch-hitter and crushed her second home run of the season, giving Troy a 5-0 advantage.

Mock was tremendous in her first collegiate start, striking out seven and allowing just three hits in seven innings of work.

Troy 0, North Florida 3

North Florida picked up a pair of runs in the second inning on a sacrifice bunt and an RBI single. The Ospreys would add their third and final run in the fifth.

Jaycee Affeldt took the loss for Troy after allowing seven hits and two earned runs in six innings. Affeld struck out eight on the day.

North Florida's Cortney Radke was solid in the circle, striking out eight and allowing just two hits. Griffin picked up a single and Davis laced a double to the outfield wall.
