Thomas Named Sun Belt Player of the Week

TROY, Alabama – Troy senior forward Kevin Thomas was named the Sun Belt Player of The week on Tuesday after averaging 18.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in the Trojans' wins over Alcorn State and Central Arkansas last week. The weekly honor is the first of Thomas' career.

Thomas posted back-to-back double-doubles for the second time in his career, including scoring a career-high 22 points against Central Arkansas Saturday. He hit over 50 percent from the field in both contests, including a 10-of-11 performance against the Bears, along with 11 rebounds, two blocks and two steals.Â

Against Alcorn State last Tuesday, Thomas was instrumental in the Trojans' victory as he poured in 14 points, which he paired with 10 rebounds, and a career-high four steals.

Thomas currently ranks seventh in the nation, averaging 4.5 offensive boards per contest. He also ranks eighth in the country, as he is shooting 66 percent from the floor.

Thomas is the first Trojan to earn Sun Belt Player of the Week honors since Tevin Calhoun did so last season following Troy's wins at Arkansas State and UALR.

Next up, Troy travels to Dothan, Ala., to face Fort Valley State at the Dothan Civic Center on Thursday. Tip off between the Trojans and the Wildcats is slated for 7 p.m.Â
