Troy (5-4) enters Sun Belt play with a winning record for the first time since 2009-10. That is thanks to Troy's 75-71 win over Tennessee State 10 days ago in its final non-conference game. The Trojans trailed for 19 minutes of the second half in that game before a Kourtney Coleman layup with 28 seconds remaining gave them the lead, and ultimately the win.
Ronita Garrett led the Trojans in the game with 16 points and 10 rebounds, marking her third straight double-double. Garrett is the first Trojan since 2008-09 to post three straight double-doubles. Her seven double-doubles this season, rank first in the Sun Belt and 12th in the NCAA.
Garrett leads the Trojans in scoring at 15.3 points per game, a mark that ranks fourth in the Sun Belt. Garrett's 10.6 rebounds per game rank second in the Sun Belt and 32nd in the NCAA.
Troy is in a familiar place, leading the Sun Belt in scoring at 73.1 points per game. Now in Chanda Rigby's third season, the Trojans led the league in scoring in each of the first two. However, this season Troy ranks eighth in the league in field goal percentage (38.5) and 10th in 3-point percentage (26.7), but it averages 73.0 field goal attempts per game, 11 more than any other Sun Belt team.
Defensively, the Trojans are forcing 23.7 opponent turnovers and picking up 12.4 steals per game, both tops in the Sun Belt. Those numbers rank 11th and 18th in the NCAA, respectively.
The Trojans will be looking to snap a streak of four straight losses in Sun Belt openers. Troy is 2-7 all-time in Sun Belt openers with the last win coming over New Orleans in 2008-09.
Texas State (5-4) won three of its last four games in non-conference play, including a loss to Stetson in its final non-conference game. Texas State shoots better from 3-point range (36.6 percent) than it does overall (35.7 percent). The Bobcats rank second in the Sun Belt in 3-point percentage, but last in field goal percentage. The Bobcats make a league-best 7.9 3-pointers per game, which ranks 26th in the NCAA.
Erin Peoples leads the Bobcats in scoring at 15.3 points per game. Megan Braeuer averages 14.8 points per game for Texas State, including an NCAA-best 3.9 3-pointers per game. Braeuer also ranks in the NCAA top 10 as she shoots 51.5 percent from deep (35-of-68).
Texas State leads the all-time series over Troy, 2-0. The Bobcats won last season's two meetings by a combined eight points. The Bobcats won in San Marcos, 87-82, in overtime before winning in the regular season finale in Troy, 95-92.
