Trojans Open Sun Belt Action Tuesday

TROY, Alabama – The Troy men's basketball team hosts Texas State on Tuesday in its Sun Belt home opener at Trojan Arena. Tip off between the Trojans and Bobcats is slated for 7:30 p.m., as it is part of a doubleheader with the women's squad, which tips at 5:15 p.m.

The game will be a part of Pike County Appreciation night. Pike County residents can show their driver's license at the door and receive two FREE general admission tickets to the doubleheader. All fans, not just Pike County residents, can pre-register by CLICKING HERE and upgrade to two reserved seats.

The Trojans (5-4) are coming off of a thrilling 65-64 win at Stopher Gym in their final non-conference game against Nicholls. In the program's 1,000th win, Musa Abdul-Aleem led the Trojans as he hit the final shot to beat the buzzer, while he paced Troy with 22 points.

In non-conference play, Troy has three athletes averaging double figure points. Abdul-Aleem leads the Trojans with 15.8 per game. Wesley Person and Kevin Thomas each are averaging 13.8 and 11.9 points, respectively. Thomas has shot 45-of-66 from the floor (68.2 percent), which ranks second best in the NCAA. Thomas also leads all on the boards, averaging 8.3 rebounds per contest. He currently is ranked ninth in the country, averaging 4.2 offensive boards per game.

Texas State (6-3) is coming off a 90-56 win over Huston-Tilloston in San Marcos, Texas. Wes Davis, who poured in 17 points, led the Bobcats. Emani Gant, who added 16 points for the Bobcats, also reeled in a game-high nine boards. Gant ranks in the top 30 in the nation, as he is shooting 58.8 percent from the floor.

The Bobcats currently rank 15th in the nation, as they have held their opponents to 56 points per game. Texas State also ranks 16th in the country, averaging 9.2 steals per contest.

Troy and Texas State have met just twice in school history, each earning a win at home. In their last faceoff, the Trojans defeated the Bobcats 72-50 to clinch a berth to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
