Trojans Close Non-Conference Play at Tennessee State

NASHVILLE, Tennessee – The Troy women's basketball team closes its non-conference schedule a two-game road trip at Tennessee State on Saturday.  Tip off at the Gentry Center is set for 6 p.m.

Troy (4-4) is coming off of a 94-85 loss at Evansville on Thursday night. The Trojans trailed by as many as 26 points in the second half before closing the gap to nine down the stretch. Troy shot 43.6 percent in the game, going over its season average, but Evansville set a school record with a 62.5 shooting percentage.

Troy now ranks second in the Sun Belt in scoring (72.9 points per game) despite ranking ninth in field goal percentage (38.8) and last in 3-point percentage (25.7). Chanda Rigby's up-tempo system has led the Trojans to attempt 72.8 field goals per game, by far the most in the Sun Belt.

The Trojans did force 24 turnovers at Evansville, the sixth time this season they've forced 20-plus miscues. Troy is forcing an average of 22.7 opponent turnovers per game, the second best mark in the Sun Belt and 19th best in the NCAA. Troy's 12.1 steals per game leads the Sun Belt and also ranks 19th in the NCAA. The Trojans have a +3.12 turnover margin on the season.

Ronita Garrett leads the Trojans on the season with 15.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. Garrett has posted six double-doubles, the second most in the Sun Belt and 11th most in the NCAA. Garrett ranks fifth in the SBC in scoring and second in rebounding (29th in NCAA).

Garrett posted 20 points and 10 rebounds at Evansville while Rachel Reid posted a game-high and season-high 22 points. Four different Trojans have now scored 20-plus points in a game this season, the most in the Sun Belt.

Tennessee State (3-6) has won its last two games, including a narrow, 64-61, victory over Jacksonville at home on Thursday. That win moved the Lady Tigers to 1-4 at home this season, but the four losses were all by single digits, including one in overtime.

Chelsea Hudson is TSU's go-to weapon on offense as the 6-foot senior averages 14.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Brianna Morrow averages a team-best 7.6 rebounds per game. Hudson is the only Lady Tiger averaging double-digit points.

Tennessee State defeated the Trojans last season, 77-71, at Trojan Arena in early November. TSU used a late 19-3 run to take that game, which was the first between the two schools.
