Troy (4-3) enters Thursday's game coming off of a 70-50 win over Alabama State at home on Saturday. In the win, Troy overcame a 1-of-17 shooting start and closed the first half with makes on 11-of-14 to take a halftime lead.Â
Â
Troy's defense kept the Trojans ahead for the remainder of the game as it forced 36 Alabama State turnovers. The 36 miscues by the Lady Hornets were the most forced by a Troy team since at least 1999-2000, when opponent turnover stats were first available. The Trojans scored 33 points off of turnovers in the game and also posted 26 fast break points.
Â
The Trojans are forcing 22.7 opponent turnovers per game, tied for the best mark in the Sun Belt and 22nd in the NCAA. In addition, Troy's 11.3 steals per game rank second in the conference and 38th in the NCAA.
Â
Ronita Garrett leads the Trojans on the season with 14.6 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. Garrett has posted five double-doubles, the second most in the Sun Belt and 15th most in the NCAA. Garrett ranks seventh in the league in scoring and second in rebounding. She also ranks 27th in the NCAA in rebounding.
Â
Garrett has scored in double figures in six of the Trojans' seven games, as has Ashley Beverly-Kelley, who sits second on the team, and ninth in the Sun Belt, averaging 13.7 points per game.
Â
Evansville (4-4) has won three straight games, the last an 81-40 win over Oakland City back on Tuesday, December 9. Sara Dickey, last year's Missouri Valley Co-Freshman of the Year, averages 19.6 points per game to lead the Purple Aces. Senior Mallory Ladd is just behind her at 17.4 points per game.
Â
Troy defeated Evansville last season, 94-86, at Trojan Arena. Former Trojan Joanna Harden scored 43 points while Dickey scored 28 to lead Evansville. That win by Troy evened the all-time series between the two schools at 1-1.
