11/7/2014 1:52:00 PM | Football
TROY, Alabama – Following a pair of road games, the Troy football team returns to Veterans Memorial Stadium as it plays host to Sun Belt foe Georgia State on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
Pregame festivities get underway at 11:45 a.m. with Trojan Walk at the corner of George Wallace Drive and University Avenue, while the first hour of the pregame show on the Troy Sports Radio Network will broadcast live from 12-1 p.m. in Tailgate Terrace.
Prior to the game, over 150 civilians will take part in an enlistment ceremony, while a solider from the Wounded Warrior Project will take part in the pregame coin toss. A flyover following the National Anthem will cap the pregame festivities.
During the game, fans will be treated to special military themed videos in addition to a special recognition for Bennie Adkins, a Troy University alumnus who received the Medal of Honor from President Obama in September.
At halftime, the Sound of the South will play its special military themed show, while all active military and veterans will be invited on the field to be recognized.
Both teams enter this weekend's contest hungry for a win as the Panthers (1-8, 0-6 Sun Belt) have dropped eight straight games and the Trojans (1-8, 1-4) have lost three straight.
Troy will look to exploit Georgia State's run defense that ranks second to last in the country allowing 307.6 yards per game. In Troy's victory over New Mexico State, the Trojans rushed for 360 yards and three touchdowns paced by Brandon Burks' 176 yards on just 10 carries.
Senior Khary Franklin is coming off a solid effort at Georgia Southern last week where he rushed for 62 yards and a score on eight carries. Troy's trio of running backs – Jordan Chunn, Burks and Franklin – are averaging 96.7 yards per game this season.
The Trojans are averaging 423 yards of total offense in their four home games this season and will be squaring off against a Panthers' defense that is allowing 506.8 yards per game. Troy has done a solid job of taking care of the ball this season with just 10 lost turnovers and only four interceptions; Georgia State has intercepted two passes and recovered four fumbles this year.
Defensively, the Trojans will be without the services of middle linebacker Mark Wilson and defensive end Tyler Roberts will be a game-time decision. Troy enters Saturday's game second in the Sun Belt allowing just 196.7 passing yards per game.
The Trojan secondary will be tested by Georgia State quarterback Nick Arbuckle and his Sun Belt leading 279.9 passing yards per game. Arbuckle leads the Sun Belt with 16 touchdowns passes, but ranks third with 10 interceptions.
