Â
Troy (2-8, 2-4 Sun Belt) gashed Georgia State for 324 yards and five rushing touchdowns, which were scored by five different players – the most in Troy's FBS history and the most since six players rushed for a score against Charleston Southern in 1994.
Â
Brandon Burks led the charge with 118 yards and a score on 13 carries for his fifth career 100-yard game. Quarterback Brandon Silvers added 54 yards on five carries, including a 30-yard touchdown run that included a flip over the pylon. It was the longest rushing touchdown by a Troy quarterback since Deon Anthony had a 33-yard score against FIU in 2012.
Â
Josh Anderson picked up his first career rushing touchdown, Khary Franklin found the end zone for the second straight week and Jordan Chunn rushed for his 19th career score.
Â
The Trojans opened up 21-7 lead at the half, its largest of the season, thanks to scores from Anderson, Burks and remarkable back shoulder catch by Bryan Holmes on a 31-yard pass from Silvers.
Â
Interceptions by Ethan Davis and Montres Kitchens on back-to-back drives in the second quarter ended a pair of Georgia State (1-9, 0-7) drives in Troy territory. Troy now has eight interceptions on the season, the most by a Trojan defense since they also had eight in 2011.
Â
Nick Arbuckle was responsible for all three of Georgia State scores on the day with a pair of touchdown passes to Lynquez Blair and one to Todd Blair. Arbuckle finished the game 23-of-37 for 293 yards with the three touchdowns and two interceptions.
Â
Troy quickly extended its lead to 28-7, the Trojans largest of the season, on Silvers' 30-yard run. Jamal Stadom gave the Trojans excellent field position on the Panthers 32-yard line after he stripped Marcus Caffey and Tray Hall recovered the loose ball.
Â
Georgia State pulled back within two scores on Blair's first touchdown reception of the night, but the Trojans rolled off 17 straight points to put the game of reach. Ryan Kay started the run of points with a 44-yard field goal. Kay is now 8-for-10 on the year and a perfect 4-of-4 from 40+ yards.
Â
The Trojans finished the game with 440 yards of total offense and are now averaging 426.4 yards in their five home games. Silvers was 17-of-21 for 111 yards through the air, while Holmes finished with four catches for 52 yards and Chandler Worthy had four catches for 27 yards.
Â
In addition to the three turnovers forced, the Troy defense also sacked Arbuckle three times and finished with seven tackles for loss. Davis, Kitchens and Sam Lebbie paced the Trojans with seven tackles, while Stadom had six tackles, 0.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss.
Â
Troy travels across the country next Saturday to take on Idaho in the Kibbie Dome. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. (CST) and will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
