Trojans Open Homestand on Sunday

TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's basketball team opens a three-game homestand on Sunday as Savannah State visits Trojan Arena at 2 p.m.

Troy (2-2) is coming off of a 65-59 win at Florida A&M on Monday. Troy shot just 32 percent, but held Florida A&M to 25 percent in the second half.

Troy outrebounded the Lady Rattlers 55-48 in the game, including 27 offensive rebounds that led to 15 second-chance points. The Trojans now rank first in the Sun Belt in both rebounding (45.5 rpg) and offensive rebounding (18.8 orpg).

Ronita Garrett led the Trojans with 19 points and 14 rebounds, marking her third double-double of the season, tying for the most in the Sun Belt. Garrett now ranks sixth in the Sun Belt in scoring (15.0 ppg) and second in rebounding (10.5 rpg).

Kristen Emerson also had 14 rebounds against the Lady Rattlers, setting a career high. Emerson had 10 offensive boards, becoming the first Trojan to accomplish that feat since 2004-05. Emerson ranks third in the Sun Belt in rebounding (8.8 rpg), giving Troy two of the league's top three rebounders.

Savannah State (2-1) has not played in 10 days since a 71-62 home win over Alabama State. The Lady Tigers are led by MEAC Preseason Player of the Year Ezinne Kalu who leads them in scoring (19.7 ppg), assists (4.0 apg) and steals (4.7 spg).

Troy will be looking to avenge a 93-84 road loss to Savannah State a year ago in the first ever meeting between the schools.
