Cross Country Competes at Sun Belt Conference Championships

MOBILE, Alabama – The Troy cross country team competed at the 2014 Sun Belt Cross Country Championships on Sunday morning at the USS Alabama Memorial Park in Mobile, Alabama. Both the women's and men's squad finished ninth.

In the women's 5k, Troy was led by Mikayla Hodges at a personal-best, 18:19.2 finishing 29th. Julia Ostendorf took second on the team and 31st overall at 18:29.5. Marsel Mosley was Troy's next finisher at 18:46.6. Sarah Zylstra finished next at 19:24.9, followed closely by Samantha Smith at 19:26.9.Katrina Bokefohr rounded out the group with a personal-best time of 19:50.7

"We had a few season personal records," head coach Elliott Blount said. "However, we lacked the competitiveness in the heart of the race, which costed us one or two places in the overall finish."
In the men's 8k, the Trojans were led by Dylan Ogburn at 27:09.1, in 45th place. Sean Kent took second on the team at 27:23.4. Timothy Bulger came in third for Troy at 27:53.0. Joe Giese, Eric Schueller and Cameron McCutheon all finished in a row at 29:03.7, 29:06.6 and 30:04.6, respectively.
"We failed to play to our strengths and with such a small margin of error it showed," Blount said. "We got separated early and we're unable and to recover."
