TROY, Alabama – Troy men's golf head coach Matt Terry announced the signing of Calum Masters and Sam Prater to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday. The pair will join the Trojans beginning with the 2015-16 season.
"We are very excited to welcome both Calum and Sam to our program," Terry said. "Not only are they good players, but they are also both good students and high quality young men. They will be great additions to our program for the next four years."
Masters is the defending Alabama 1A-2A individual champion after shooting a state record 8-under 136, which included a round of 65. In addition to the individual title, Masters helped lead Providence Christian to a team championship.
Masters picked up a pair of victories during the 2014 Southeastern Junior Golf Tour, including at the SJGT Championship where he shot a 4-over par. He earned individual medalist honors at the 2013 Class 2A Alabama Sub-State Tournament and played on the 2012 Providence Christian state championship team.
Prater, who is also a varsity basketball player at Spain Park High School, has been a member of three straight Alabama 6A state championship teams. With a low round of 67 on his resume, Prater turned in a top-20 finish at State Junior Championships, while finishing in the top 30 at the Future Masters. His brother Robby is a member of men's golf team at the University of Alabama.
