NEW ORLEANS – Troy freshman defensive end Jamal Stadom has been named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week and Troy senior wide receiver Chandler Worthy has been named the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Stadom continued his impressive start to the Sun Belt portion of Troy's schedule has he recorded 10 tackles and a pair of sacks, while recovering two fumbles and forcing another in Troy's 41-24 victory over New Mexico State. The Melbourne, Fla., native is the first freshman to earn any Sun Belt Player of the Week award this season. Through Troy's first two league games, Stadom has 17 tackles and four sacks.
Worthy became the first Sun Belt player to return a kickoff for a touchdown this season when he took one to the house from 89 yards out against New Mexico State.
