Men’s Golf Looks to Build on Hot Start at AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic

TROY, Alabama – The No. 45 Troy men's golf team will look to continue its impressive play to start the season when it travels to the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic at the Berkeley Hill Country Club in Duluth, Ga. Competition opens with 36 holes Monday before closing with 18 holes Tuesday.
"I hope that we continue the play that we've had in the second and third rounds and get off to a better start in this event," head coach Matt Terry said. "We've done a nice job settling into each tournament, but we need to start reacting quicker during the opening round."
The Trojans are 19-5 on the season after finishing fourth at The Invitational at Kiawah and third at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational, while sophomores Jared Bettcher and Luke Moser each have a top-six finish under their belts.
Troy closed strong in its first two events with a 289 stroke average in the second and third rounds after averaging a 299.5 in the first round of both events. The Trojans have combined for four rounds under par and three in the 60s.
"It's nice to have a couple young guys lead us so far," Terry said. "Hopefully all the guys will continue to elevate their games. The highest round we've had to count this season is a 76 and that is pretty good."
Bettcher leads the Trojans with a 72.67 stroke average after tying for third at Kiawah with a 5-under 211. Moser is right on his heels with a 73.17 average following his sixth-place finish at the Jack Nicklaus. Bettcher has a pair of sub-par rounds this season and four at even par or better.
Seniors Jake Tucker (73.87), Phillip Brennan (74.67) and Tolver Dozier (75.17) will comprise the rest of the field for Troy at the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic, while Clayton Vannoy will compete as an individual. Tucker and Brennan both have rounds of 68 on their cards this season, while Dozier tied for 25th at Kiawah.
Joining Troy will be Georgia State, College of Charleston, Chattanooga, Davidson, Francis Marion, Mercer, UNC Greensboro, Richmond, Samford, South Alabama and VCU.
