TROY, Ala. – The Trojans ran into a hot-shooting Warhawks team on Thursday night, as Troy (7-10, 2-3 SBC) fell to UL Monroe (5-7, 2-2 SBC), 75-64, on Thursday night in Trojan Arena.
"I thought we played hard," said head coach Phil Cunningham. "I thought the effort was there. The first stat I always look at is rebounding and we outrebounded them. We had 12 offensive rebounds. When you get offensive rebounds you're playing hard."
Troy stayed close early in the second half but couldn't get closer than three points after the opening minutes. The Warhawks would eventually get up by double-figures, as the Trojans were forced to foul in the final minutes.
ULM shot 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from beyond the arc and 52 percent (26-of-50) from the field. Troy was 22-of-47 (46.7 %) from the field and 6-of-21 (28.6 %) from range. The Trojans outrebounded the Warhawks 28-25.
Jeff Mullahey and Hunter Williams led the team in scoring with 16 points each. Antoine Myers also finished in double-figures, scoring 13 points. Kevin Thomas grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
In all, there were eight ties and six lead changes, as neither team held a lead of more than six points over the final 15 minutes of the first half.
Troy stays in town to take on UL Lafayette on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. as part of a double-header with the women's team.
