TROY, Ala. – A five minute scoreless stretch late in the second half proved to be too much to overcome, as Troy (7-11, 2-4 SBC) fell to UL Lafayette (12-6, 3-2 SBC), 72-59, at Trojan Arena on Saturday night.

"That was one tough pill to swallow right there," said head coach Phil Cunningham. "At half time we were really disappointed in our level of toughness. To our guys' credit, they came back and were really tough. They fought back and got back in the game."

The Trojans went cold at the end of the half, scoring just three points in the final seven minutes, all on free throws. Prior to the cold streak, Troy had cut the lead to 57-56 on a 3-ball by Hunter Williams.

Tevin Calhoun led the way with 14 points, while Kevin Thomas picked up his fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 13 boards. Jeff Mullahey also scored in double-figures, finishing with 13 points. Williams struggled from the field, but dished out seven assists, a season high.

Troy shot 41.1 percent (23-of-56) from the field and 29.4 percent (5-of-17) from beyond the arc. The Trojans won the rebound battle, 33-32.

UL-L built a 10-point lead late in the first half, but the Trojans recovered early in the second frame to take a lead of their own.
