Trojans Begin Competition at UAB Blazer Invitational

Day One Results
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Troy University track and field opened up competition at the UAB Blazer Invitational on Friday night. Several athletes made their Trojan debuts on the night, as the 2014 season got underway.
"Day one proved to be a learning experience for us," said head coach Jill Lancaster. "It was a large field, including several professionals. We got the large class of freshman their first collegiate personal bests."
Lacey Marcus placed 22nd in the Section A 60-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 9.21 seconds, while Riley Schwietz took 30th at 9.48 seconds. Marcus went on run a 8.14 second 60-meter dash.
Allison Taylor placed 34th in the weight throw with a toss of 12.82 meters. Erin Woods and Nesha Defoe battled in the triple jump, competing with shortened approaches. Woods posted a leap of 10.90 meters, while Defoe finished right behind her at 10.76 meters. Hayley Watts finished in a tie for 29th in the pole vault at 3.05 meters.
Newcomer Dallas Worthy was Troy's top finisher in the 300-meters, completing the event in 41.01 seconds. Troy competed well in the distance medley also, placing ninth in 12:44.02.
Sierra King finished 33rd in the Section A 60-meter dash at 8.01 seconds. Tiffany Slater, Carley Wright and Aleeza Kempton all competed well in the 500-meter run. Slater finished first among the group with a time of 1:24.16, while Wright and Kempton finished close behind in 1:27.41 and 1:28.03, respectively.Â
"The best part of the day was that they know where they are and feel confident where they are headed," Lancaster said. "We look forward to what day two will bring."
