Troy Volleyball Travels to Auburn for Three Matches

AUBURN, Ala. – The Troy volleyball team continues its early-season action with a trip to the Active Ankle Challenge hosted by Auburn this weekend. The Trojans will take on Green Bay and Mercer at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively, on Thursday. They will then play Auburn on Friday at 7 p.m.
All matches will be played at the Student Activities Center on Auburn's campus. Live stats for all matches will be available through AuburnTigers.com or TroyTrojans.com. Fans can also find links to live video for just the Auburn match in those two places as well.
Troy (2-2) opened its season with a 1-2 showing at the Southern Miss Invitational last weekend before returning home to host Georgia Southern on Monday. The Trojans swept the Eagles in what was Troy's first match at Trojan Arena. The win over Georgia Southern was also the 100th for head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick at Troy.
Troy has been led offensively by Marija Zelenovic who is averaging 4.36 kills/set and hitting .298 on the season. The junior outside hitter posted a match-high 17 kills against Georgia Southern.
Senior libero Courtney Cohen led the Sun Belt during the opening week of the season with a 5.29 digs/set average. The reigning Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week has 74 digs on the season, moving her career total to 1,593 digs, just 136 shy of setting the Troy all-time career record.
Green Bay (1-2) played in the NIU Invitational last weekend. The Phoenix swept Liberty and fell to No.23 Ohio State and Northern Illinois, both in five sets. Troy and Green Bay have never met on the volleyball court.
Mercer (1-3) played in the UAB Invitational last weekend. The Bears defeated Jacksonville State in four sets, but fell to UAB, Samford and Georgia Sate. Troy is 13-5 all-time against Mercer, including 2-0 on a neutral court.
Auburn (4-0) played in the Marcia E. Hamilton Classic last weekend hosted by Saint Louis. The Tigers swept Saint Louis and ULM and also defeated No.10 Nebraska in four sets.
Auburn then swept SIU Edwardsville on the road on Sunday. The Tigers were receiving votes in this week's AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll. Troy is 0-6 all-time against Auburn, including an 0-3 mark on the road.
