Men's Basketball Begins Spain Trip With Three Straight Wins
SAN CANARIA, Spain – Another day, another win. The Troy men's basketball team took down Gran Canaria Select, 91-49, in its final game in Spain on Friday, improving to 5-0 on the tour.
"Tonight's game was a great way to finish our trip," head coach Phil Cunningham said. "The guys were pretty tired and starting to get that 'ready to go home' feeling, but they still came out and played hard and played together. Those are the two areas we expect them to be consistent on a daily basis, and they have proven to our coaching staff on this trip that they are capable of doing just that."
The Trojans held a slim advantage at the half, up just 38-30, but came out hot in the second, holding Gran Canaria Select to just 19 points in the final frame.
Wes Hinton led the Trojans in scoring for the third time on the trip, finishing with 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Tevin Calhoun was right behind him with 19 points.
Three other Trojans scored in double-figures, with Hunter Williams scoring 16 points and dishing out four assists. Antoine Myers had 13 points, four helpers and five steals, while Josh Warren scored 10 points and grabbed six boards.
As a team, the Trojans shot 52.1 percent from the field, including 7-of-19 (36.8 %) from 3-point range.
The team now returns home for some much needed rest, before fall semester begins on Wednesday.
