Bolla Ready for NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Senior thrower Nicolo Bolla is set to represent the Trojans in the hammer throw at the 2013 NCAA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., on Thursday, competing in the field of 24 for the first time in his career. The competition begins at 3:30 p.m. CDT and can be followed on NCAA.com.

“This is what Nicolo has been working for,” said throwers coach Shawn Williams. “He wanted to make it to nationals, and now that he's here, he wants to show everyone what he's capable of. We're looking forward to seeing what he throws this week.”

Bolla enters the National Championships after placing ninth in the East Region two weeks ago in Greensboro, N.C. His season-best throw of 65.78 meters at the Coach “O” Invitational in April has him seeded 12th in the nation overall.

“We are very excited about what Nicolo is prepared to do at the National Championships,” said head coach Jill Lancaster. “He has done workouts like he has never done before this year and put together a great string of marks repeatedly throughout the season.

“Being consistent during the championships season will take you very far. To be one of the 12 athletes from the East and one of a total of 24 competing in the hammer at the National Championships is a huge honor for him and a great representation of our Troy Trojans and the University.”

Last season, the Trojans also sent one member to the National Championships, with Martins Pildavs placing 13th in the javelin and earning All-America distinction.
