Men's Golf Adds Two Signees

TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's golf program and head coach Matt Terry announced the signing of two students-athletes on Friday that will join the Trojans in the fall.
Troy adds to its 2013 signing class Jared Bettcher and Clayton Vannoy. They join Luke Moser who signed with the Trojans earlier this year.
Bettcher (Auburn, Ala. – Auburn HS), ranked as the No. 115 golfer in the class of 2013 by Golfweek, will join the program in the fall after a very successful run in the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour over the past five years.
“Jared is a young man we've been watching play for four or five years just due to the fact that he's from Auburn and we have so many guys from Auburn,” Terry said. “He brings a lot of firepower and has proven to shoot very, very low numbers; a couple of 65's and a 64 this summer in numerous tournaments.”
Since making his first appearance on the tour in December of 2007, Bettcher has picked up 10 tournament wins and 31 top-10 finishes. Outside of individual play in the SJGT, Bettcher still has tournaments to play as a high school golfer. He and the Auburn High School Tigers just recently captured the Class 6A-Section 2 title on Monday with a team score 295, and advance to the South Sub-State Tournament to be held next Monday in Mobile.
“He's a guy that gets along well with our team and has known most of our team probably most of his golfing life. He's another very good student coming in and should help us in both ways.”
Vannoy (Pensacola, Fla. – Pensacola Catholic HS) will also enroll in the fall after a successful run in the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour. Clayton will be the second Vannoy apart of Troy's golf program, as his older sister, Langley, just finished her sophomore year as a Trojan.
“We're real excited to get another Vannoy in being a part of our program,” Terry said. “If he can do half of what his sister has done through her career, we're looking at a good four year stint with Clay starting in the fall.”
Like Bettcher, Vannoy has been an active member on the SJGT with multiple top-five and top-10 finishes. He picked up a win at the Highland Oaks Junior Classic in Mar. 2011, and has recorded eight top-five finishes over his SJGT career.
He also has past experience with the American Junior Golf Association, 2012 U.S. Open Local Qualifying, and Florida Junior Tour in 2013. Vannoy captured the Boys 16-18 tournament win at the Pensacola Country Club in Feb. 2012, and picked up a top-10 finish at the Medicus Cup Spring Tour Championships in April 2012.
“He already gets along very well with the whole team,” Terry said. “He was our longest commit; he committed to us last Christmas and was one of the earliest commits I've had since I've been at Troy. We're really excited, he brings a good junior resume and we're really excited to get him here and fully focused on golf.”
