Sun Belt Championships Day One

MIRAMAR, Fla. – The Trojans wrapped up day one at the Sun Belt Championships in Miramar, Fla., with several impressive performances. The men currently sit in a tie for sixth place after two events, while the women sit in a tie for eighth place after three events.
“Both men and women combined event athletes produced numerous season and personal bests,” said head coach Jill Lancaster. “Nicole finished higher than her seed and reached the final and Eddie picked up an impressive second place finish.”
Nicole Studstill got on the board in the first event of the day, placing eighth in the discus at 41.66 meters and earning one point for the Trojans. Studstill entered the day ranked 11th in the conference in the discus.
Eddie Lynn took second in the discus throw at 52.94 meters, earning eight points for the team.
Veronica Bryant finished day one of the heptathlon in second place with 3,024 points. Teammate Adria Hill is currently in ninth, one place out of scoring position with 2,676 points, just two points back of eighth.
Bryant finished second in the 100-meter hurdles at 14.56 seconds, while Hill placed fourth at 14.67 seconds. Hill won the 200-meter dash in 25.06 seconds, a season-best, while Bryant took fifth at 25.83 seconds. Bryant placed fourth in the shot put and sixth in the high jump, while Hill took 11th in both events.
Douglas Dyer and Samuel Johnson wrapped up day one of the decathlon in seventh and eighth, with 3,286 and 3,263 points, respectively.
Dyer finished third in the 400-meter at 50.53 seconds, his best finish of the day. He took sixth in the 100-meter dash at 11.32 seconds and seventh in the shot put at 10.96 meters, both season-bests. Dyer also placed 10th in the high jump at 1.73 meters and 11th in the long jump at 6.03 meters.
Johnson's best finish on the day was third in the 100-meter dash at 11.13 seconds, a season-best. He took fourth in the long jump at 6.58 meters and eighth in the shot put at 10.74 meters. Johnson placed eighth in the 400-meter with a time of 53.39 seconds and finished 11th in the high jump at 1.67 meters, tying a season-best.
