NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Troy University men's track and field team is currently ninth in the South Region in the first installment of the USTFCCA Division I Regional Rankings of the season. Several individuals are also ranked in the region.
“We are delighted with the first South Region Ranking of the season,” said head coach Jill Lancaster. “As a team we know we have additional athletes who can make the move into the rankings as well as the current ranked athletes improving. Obviously being in front of two Sun Belt schools is a good start and a vote of confidence for all their hard work. The best part about this type of ranking is it keeps you motivated to be better when you see the teams in front of us.”
The Trojans are the only team not from the SEC or ACC in the top-10. Florida is the dominant favorite in the region. Troy is the top Sun Belt team in the region, just ahead of Middle Tennessee and South Alabama in the top-15.
Jordan Landburg is third in the South Region in the 200-meter dash with his time of 21.30 seconds in the event at the Jaguar Invitational.
Neko Freeman is ranked eighth in the 100-meter dash after posting a season-best time of 10.42 seconds earlier this season at the Shamrock Invitational.
Troy's 4x100-meter relay squad of Freeman, Landburg, Benjamin Martin and Phillip Pritchett is fifth, with a season-best time of 40.83 seconds.
In field events, Troy has two athletes in the regional rankings. Nicolo Bolla is fifth in the hammer throw at 61.41 meters, while Eddie Lynn is sixth in the discus at 53.56 meters.
Both Samuel Johnson and Douglas Dyer are ranked in the top-8 in the decathlon, with Johnson in sixth and Dyer close behind in seventh.
The Trojans return to the track on Friday, April 5, at the Tiger Track Classic hosted by Auburn University.
