Women's Golf Heads to Sun Belt Championships

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – After claiming one team championship and finishing in the top five in five of its nine 2012-13 events, the Troy women's golf team will wrap up its season Monday through Wednesday at the Sun Belt Conference Championships.
The 54-hole tournament will feature all of the Sun Belt's 11 teams as players will converge at the Robert Trent Jones venue Monday morning with the first tee times slated for 8 a.m. from the Fighting Joe Golf Course.
Troy's lineup includes seniors Sofia Bjorkman and Sara Fennvik, and sophomores Brooke Spinks, Sydney Conrad, and Langley Vannoy. The Trojans will look for revenge this season after finishing eighth in last year's Sun Belt finale.
Bjorkman enters her final contest as a Trojan ranked third in the Sun Belt statistically with a 74.79 stroke average. The Vanersborg, Sweden, native has only finished outside the top-10 in two of the season's nine tournaments, and will look to finish out her Troy career strong after earning Sun Belt Golfer of the Month Honors for March.
Fennvik will also close out her collegiate golf career this week after appearing in all nine of Troy's tournaments. Fennvik enters with a 78.00 stroke average and will look to bounce back on the course after her two previous finishes outside the top-25.
Vannoy, who finished tied for 35th in last year's conference championships, enters ranked No. 20 in the conference with a 77.75 stroke average.
Conrad, who recorded Troy's low finish in last year's Sun Belt Championships, carries a 79.47 stroke average into the Fighting Joe, while Brooke Spinks enters with a 78.25 scoring average.
No. 52 FIU and No. 99 Troy enter the tournament as the only two teams ranked inside GolfStat's top-100, while no individuals are featured in Golfweek's top-100.
Action from the Fighting Joe will get underway Monday morning with an 8 a.m. start. Vannoy will tee-off first for Troy at 8:40, with Spinks, Fennvik, Conrad, and Bjorkman to follow in nine minute increments. Live scoring will be available through GolfStat.com
