Spec Town Relays Results
ATHENS, Ga. – Competition at the Bulldog Heptathlon and the Georgia Spec Towns National Team Invitational began on Friday, while Sam Johnson wrapped up the Bulldog Decathlon, finishing in fourth. Several Trojans posted season-best results on the day.
“It was an impressive day for our combined event athletes,” said head coach Jill Lancaster. “Both Sam and Veronica had some huge personal bests while not making any mistakes.”
Johnson performed well on Friday, improving his position in the decathlon to fourth and setting four personal-bests on the day. He finished the day with 6,400 points, moving into fifth all-time in the decathlon. Johnson began the day with an impressive time of 16.37 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles. He followed that up with a throw of 35.48 meters in the discus and 51.15 meters in the javelin.
Veronica Bryant had a tremendous day in the heptathlon, finishing the opening day in third with 3,102 points. Bryant won the shot put competition with a toss of 11.66 meters, a season-best. She also posted a career-best 100-meter hurdles time of 14.47 seconds, placing third in the event. Her time of 25.54 seconds in the 200-meter dash is also a season-best.
“In these events it is very important to be consistent and not make mistakes,” Lancaster said. “Both exhibited great composure during the day.”
At the Georgia Spec Towns National Team Invitational, Chaun Lynn picked up an eighth place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 14.03 meters, a season-best. Delonte Martistee finished right behind him in ninth at 13.94 meters.
Christina Barrett placed eighth in the shot put with a throw of 11.47 meters while Nicolo Bolla finished third in the hammer throw at 59.87 meters. Brynn Forsythe took ninth in the hammer throw at 49.50 meters, while Nicole Studstill threw 47.47 meters, a season-best, and Shayla Smith threw 38.67 meters.
