ATHENS, Ga. – Troy track and field heads out to Athens, Ga., to take part in a pair of meets at the University of Georgia this weekend, beginning with the Georgia Bulldog Decathlon/Heptathlon and concluding with the Georgia Spec Town Relays.
“We're excited to see what our athletes can do in the multi-events,” said head coach Jill Lancaster. “There will be a lot of quality competitors at the meet this weekend, so it will serve as a good measure for where we are as a team.”
Two Trojans will be competing in the multi-event meet to kick off the weekend, in Veronica Bryant and Sam Johnson.
Bryant will be competing in her first multi-event meet of the outdoor season. Bryant was Troy's top competitor in the pentathlon during the indoor season, taking fifth at the Sun Belt Championships. Johnson placed third in the decathlon at the Shamrock Invitational in mid-March, scoring 5,883 points.
The decathlon begins on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. with the 100-meter dash and concludes on Friday with the 1500-meter run. The heptathlon gets underway on Friday morning with the 100-meter hurdles and wraps up with the 800-meter run on Saturday afternoon.
The Georgia Spec Town Relays begins on Friday afternoon and runs all day Saturday. Several Trojans will be looking to improve their season-best performances with just three meets remaining before the Sun Belt Championships.
“It's another great meet and we expect to see some positive results,” Lancaster said.
