Troy Begins Texas Road Trip at Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Troy softball team travels to the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic for its final non-conference tournament of the 2013 season, as the Trojans begin a nine-day road swing through the state of Texas.
Troy (10-10, 1-1) will face UMKC, IPFW, future Sun Belt conference foe Texas-Arlington and host Texas Tech at three-day tournament at Rocky Johnson Field. The Trojans are coming off a 1-1 start to in Sun Belt conference play as Troy fell to Middle Tennessee 7-5 on Wednesday, but shutout the Blue Raiders 5-0 in the nightcap.
The Trojans open up play on Saturday at 11 a.m. against UMKC and wrap up the first day of play against UT-Arlington at 3 p.m. On day two, Troy faces IPFW at 2:30 p.m. and Texas Tech at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Troy finishes play on Sunday with back-to-back games against UT-Arlington and Texas Tech. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. against the Mavericks; 1 p.m. against the Red Raiders.
Entering play this weekend, senior first baseman Caitlin Ortiz leads the conference with a .429 batting average and recorded her first career grand slam on Wednesday in Troy's win at Middle Tennessee. The senior slugger has a .561 on-base percentage through Troy's 20 games this season while posting a .714 slugging percentage.
In her third career start, Troy senior pitcher Michaela Hamilton recorded her first complete game by shutting out Middle Tennessee in the final game of Wednesday's doubleheader at Middle Tennessee. The southpaw registered a career-high six strikeouts and did not walk a batter in her longest outing as a Trojan.
At the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic, Troy faces Texas Tech (13-7) and IPFW (7-4) for the first time in program history. The Trojans have faced both, UT-Arlington (8-7) and UMKC (7-7), once in school history. Troy is 1-0 all-time against UMKC, defeating the Roos 7-5 in 2001, while falling to UT-Arlington 4-2 in the team's only meeting in 1999.
