Trojans Drop Consolation Finals at MT Shootout

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In another rain-marred match at the MT Shootout, the Troy men's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Illinois State in the eight-team tournament's consolation bracket final.

Much like Saturday's matches, the score did not reflect how close Sunday's match with the Redbirds was. Troy (8-13) lost all four on the day's singles matches in three sets after winning the first set in all four.

In a match that was moved to Nashboro Village Athletic Club in Nashville due to rain, Troy seemed to get out on the right foot with first set wins at the first four spots in the singles lineup.

However, Illinois State (7-11) rallied in all four and went on to sweep the match, giving the Redbirds a fifth-place finish at the two-day event. Complete results are below.

The Trojans return to the court on Tuesday when they travel to take on South Alabama, a team they fell to on Saturday in the first round of the MT Shootout. Troy has just three regular season matches remaining before opening the Sun Belt Championships on April 18 in Lafayette, La.
