Trojans Continue to Impress at Shamrock Invitational

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Trojans continued competition at the Shamrock Invitational on the campus of Coastal Carolina today, with several athletes giving solid performances. Competition will wrap up tomorrow.
"The Trojans have had a very productive two days at the Shamrock Invitational,” said head coach Jill Lancaster. “We are proud of the efforts which produced many top finishes in large fields as well as qualifiers for tomorrow.”
Adria Hill finished seventh in the heptathlon, scoring 3,845 points. Her best finish came in the 200-meter dash, winning the event with a time of 26.64 seconds.
Nicolo Bolla took second in the weight throw on Thursday night, among a very strong field, with a toss of 61.41 meters.
Samuel Johnson and Douglas Dyer had strong performances in the decathlon. The duo took second and third in the 1500-meter, the final event of the decathlon, with Dyer edging out Johnson by just over one second. Johnson dominated the javelin, winning the competition with a throw of 49.75 meters, 7.49 meters longer than any competitors. Johnson ended up placing third overall with 5,883 points. Dyer took fifth overall at 5,676 points.
Two Trojans advanced to the finals of the 100-meter dash, led by Neko Freeman. Freeman won his heat and posted the top overall time at 10.71 seconds. Benjamin Martin also advanced to the finals, finishing the preliminaries in a tie for seventh at 10.93 seconds. Teammate Pritchett narrowly missed the finals, coming in 10th at 11.04 seconds.
Troy's 4x200 meter relay team of Neko Freeman, Benjamin Martin, Phillip Pritchett and Jordan Landburg took third in a highly competitive field, completing the race in 1:25.64.
Christina Barrett and Lacey Marcus took the top two spots in their heat of the 100-meter hurdles with times of 14.87 and 15.49 seconds, but narrowly missed qualifying for the finals on Saturday.
Barrett and Veronica Bryant both finished in the top-10 in the high jump, with both leaping 1.60 meters.
Myles Charley had a solid day in the long jump, taking sixth with a leap of 6.92 meters. Nicole Studskill placed seventh in the open hammer throw with a toss of 46.87 meters, while Brynn Forsythe took ninth in the invitational hammer throw at 47.62 meters.
“We're very proud of the way the team has shown up and competed so far,” said assistant coach Shawn Williams. “Everyone has done a tremendous job stepping up, even in some adverse weather conditions with the cold and wind. We have already had a number of top finishers and people making tomorrow's finals.”
