Troy Returns to Sun Belt Play at North Texas

DENTON, Texas – The Troy softball team looks to halt a six-game losing skid as it travels to face the North Texas Mean Green for its second Sun Belt Conference series of the season.

Troy faces North Texas (12-11, 1-1) in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon starting at 1 p.m. at Lovelace Stadium. Both teams conclude the series on Sunday with first pitch set for noon.

The Trojans (11-16, 1-1) fell to Texas State 5-0 on Wednesday in a midweek contest; Troy scattered just four hits and was shutout for the second straight game.

All-time, the series against the Mean Green is tied at 13-13 and North Texas took last season's series by sweeping the Trojans at the Troy Softball Complex. Troy is also looking to break a four-game losing streak to North Texas. The Mean Green split their first Sun Belt series of the season against FIU in rain-shortened series last week in Denton.

Senior first baseman Caitlin Oritz enters play hitting at a .406 clip which leads the club. Freshman Chandler Griffin continues to pound out base hits; her 29 hits lead the team and are the most by a freshman in the Sun Belt Conference.

Junior utility player Kacie McAllister brings her 11-game hitting streak to play this weekend, which is the longest streak by a Trojan this season. The Dothan, Ala., native is hitting .464 (13-for-28) with three doubles, a triple and five RBIs over the past nine games, while raising her average over 100 points since the beginning of the month and is now fourth on the team with a .333 batting average.

Troy returns home for the first time in over a month, next weekend, as the ULM Warhawks invade the Troy Softball Complex. The three-game set begins with Saturday, March 23 with a doubleheader at 1 p.m., followed by a single game to conclude the series on Sunday, March 24 at noon.
