MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Several Trojans opened up competition at the Shamrock Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina University on Thursday, as the multi-events got started, and the hammer throw and the 10,000 meter runs took place.
Adria Hill currently sits in second overall in the heptathlon after four events. She won the 200-meter dash in 26.64 seconds and took second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.47 seconds. She finished day one with 2,586 points, with three events remaining.
“Adria competed in a very competitive field today,” said head coach Jill Lancaster. “She is currently in second, among several quality competitors.”
Douglas Dyer and Samuel Johnson are battling in the decathlon, separated by just 63 points. Dyer placed second in the 400-yard dash at 50.61 seconds, while Johnson placed fifth in both the high jump and the long jump.
“They were very consistent with their performances and we look forward to their five events tomorrow,” Lancaster said.
Enock Kirui wrapped up the day of events by finishing in fifth in the 10,000 meter run, completing the race in 32:22.09.
“Enock did exactly what was asked of him,” said head cross country coach Jeff Jenkins. “He was in contention for second through the first 15 laps, but his fitness isn't quite where it will be by conference. This is a great starting point for Enock.”
Several more events will begin on Friday. For more information on Troy Athletics, visit TroyTrojans.com. Fans can also find Troy on Twitter at @TroyAthletics or on Facebook.com/TroyAthletics.
