AUBURN, Ala. – The Troy men's golf team fired a first round 313 (25-over) at the Tiger Invitational on Monday as play was suspended following the tournament's first 18 holes.
All 15 teams were able to play through their first rounds, but play was suspended prior to the scheduled second round as rain moved through the area. Due to the inclement weather, play will begin Tuesday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start as teams will play 36 continuous holes to complete the tournament.
Phillip Brennan (76) turned in Troy's low round as the sophomore shot a four-over par, 76, to lead the Trojans. Brennan began play on the 17th and dropped three bogeys on the first five holes, but used three birdies with three more bogeys to finish the day at four-over, tied for 37th.
Kyle Thommesen (77) started off solid with a birdie on the 17th, but shot one-over on seven of the next nine holes to drop to six-over. The junior carded two birdies and one bogey over the remaining holes to finish the day at five-over, 77, tied for 44th.
Wil Clowdus (80) and Jake Tucker (80) both turned in eight-over par, 80's, to finish round one tied for 70th, while Tolver Dozier (85) shot 13-over, 85, to finish 81st.
No. 68 East Carolina fired a team scored two-over, 290, to lead the field of 15 and enter Tuesday's final 36 holes with a two stroke advantage over No. 41 Mississippi State. South Alabama's Michael Garretson led the field with a three-under par, 69, to edge No. 18 Evan Beck of Wake Forest by just one stroke; both Garretson and Wesley McClain (Houston) aced a hole in the round – McClain on hole No. 8 and Garretson on hole
No. 15.
