Trojans to Compete In Samford Multi and Invitational
2/7/2013 5:00:00 PM | Track & Field
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Troy women's track and field team will head to Birmingham, Ala. on February 8th and 9th to compete at Samford University in the Samford Multi and Invitational.
The Trojans will be competing against twenty nine other teams in the meet including: Auburn University, Florida State University, Georgia Tech University, Vanderbilt University and Sun Belt teams South Alabama and ULM.
“We are excited to compete in Birmingham this weekend in our last regular season meet going into the Sun Belt Conference Championships,” head coach Jill Lancaster said. “The team has continued to improve with each competition, and we expect nothing less than this again.”
“Great things come to those who are patient and work hard. When you buy into our type of training regardless of event area you are willing to see the big picture,” Lancaster said. “This requires a great amount of trust on all parts. The athletes must trust the coaching staff as well as the staff trusting in the athletes to give us what we ask for in practice.”
“After a bout of illness that spread through the team we expect to have most of the team in action this weekend. We look to the experience of the upperclassmen to pull this team together this weekend for maximum efforts.”
The Trojans are being led this weekend by seniors Ja-Courtney Alexander, Morgan Paulson and Brynn Forsythe. Alexander earned Sun Belt Athlete of the Week for her performance last week at the MTSU Invitational, placing second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.13 seconds.
Alexander also competed in the 4x400-meter relay placing third with her team. Alexander finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.05 seconds.
Senior Morgan Paulson competed in the 3000-meter race, finishing 11th with a time of 10:54.11. Paulson also competed in the 1-mile race placing 15th with a time of 5:22.54, moving her up to 6th on the all-time ranking's list.
Brynn Forsythe took third place in the shot put for the Trojans with a toss of 12.71 meters. Forsythe also finished third in the weight throw with a toss of 12.91 meters.
