Troy Soccer Welcomes Class of 2017

TROY, Ala. – The Troy University soccer team welcomes six newcomers to the program as the class of 2017. The new class comes from four different states are poised to contribute from day one.

"We are extremely excited and honored to have such an amazing group of young women joining our program,” said head coach Chris Bentley. “They already live and breathe our core values and will be a huge part of living out our vision of being at the perennial forefront of our conference in academics, community, and competition."

Haley Dunham comes to Troy after playing at Mauldin High School in Simpsonville, S.C., for head coach Kevin Czar. Dunham has helped to lead the Mavericks to a combined 30-6 record in three seasons, including trips to the state finals in 2-of-3 seasons. Dunham plays the midfield and forward positions and will be a key contributor to the Mavericks this season. She also helped her team make the finals of the prestigious Donosti Cup, held annually in San Sebastian, Spain, in 2010. Dunham is the daughter of Kimberly and Timothy and has yet to decide on a major at Troy.

Rachel Dymecki hails from Acworth, Ga., where she played for Harrison High School. She helped lead her team to a 23-0-2 record and a state title in 2011 and the state semifinals in 2012, while playing every field position for the Hoyas. She also played her club soccer for SSA 95 Elite and was a finalist at the 2011 Disney Showcase. Dymecki was an honor student in high school, posting a 3.5 career GPA. Dymecki is the daughter of Pam and Joe and plans to major in marketing at Troy.

Nicole Harris helped lead her high school, Gulliver Preparatory School, to two state championships in the last three years. In her four years at Gulliver, the Raiders went a combined 94-2-6, including two undefeated seasons and a 53-game unbeaten streak. She was named to the all-county team in 2010, 2012 and 2013 and was named the rookie of the year in 2010. Harris scored 35 goals and had 43 assists in her career, while her Raiders were district champions all four seasons. A two-sport athlete, Harris also competed in track and field. Harris is the daughter of Carmen and Franchot and plans to study psychology at Troy.

Necee Jennings played her prep soccer at Hillgrove High School in Powder Springs, Ga., where she helped lead the Hawks to a combined 41-12-2 record in her first three seasons. Jennings scored 20 goals and added 22 assists in her career. She was named honorable mention all-county her freshman and sophomore seasons and first team all-county her junior year. She currently holds the school record for assists in a season, with 14. Jennings also helped her club team win the Score at the Shore Showcase at the U-17 level and the state cup at the same level. Jennings was an honor student in high school with a 3.9 career GPA. Jennings is the daughter of Karen and Sidney and will major in sport and fitness management at Troy.

Sarah Sheffield comes to Troy after playing for Lee County High School in Leesburg, Ga. In her four seasons with Lee, Sheffield helped lead the Trojans to the playoffs four times. She was named to the all-region team times and was named the best defender three times. Sheffield also played basketball at Lee. An honor student, Sheffield posted a career GPA of 4.2. The daughter of Mary and Charlie, Sheffield has yet to decide on a major at Troy.

Annabell Simpson played her prep soccer at University High School in Baton Rouge, La. She earned all-metro first team honors in 2010-12 and all-metro offensive MVP from 2010-12. Simpson was named second team all-state in 2011, and first-team all-state in 2012. She also competed in swimming and track. The daughter of Yuki and Karl, Simpson will study physical therapy at Troy.
