TROY, Ala.- Senior Ja-Courtney Alexander has been awarded the Sun Belt Track and Field Athlete of the Week award in the track division for her performance last weekend at the MTSU Invitational.
“Ja-Courtney is a hard working athlete and well deserving of this award,” head coach Jill Lancaster said. “We are really impressed with her ability to improve over the past three meets that she has competed in.”
“We don't race as much as half the teams we are competing against,” said Lancaster. “We have used that time to put in more training and with the rain storms we don't over train for these meets. It takes a lot of mentality for an athlete to do this. Ja-Courtney is taking advantage of all the training and getting ready for the Sun Belt Indoor Conference championships”
Ja-Courtney won the preliminary heat in the 55-meter dash with a season's best time of 7.16 seconds. Alexander then went on to place second in the finals of the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.13 seconds.
Alexander's time in the finals equals her number four finish on Troy's all-time ranking list and moves her to number four in the Sun Belt.
Alexander was the heat winner in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.05 second, finishing third overall in the race. Alexander moves to number five in the Sun Belt in the 200-meter dash. Alexander was also part of a 4x400-meter relay team for Troy, which finished the race in third place.
