Trojans Compete at Sun Belt Championships

RESULTS
JONESBORO, Ark. – The Troy women's indoor track and field team wrapped up competition at the 2013 Indoor Track & Field Championships in Jonesboro, Ark., on Monday.
“Today saw some bright spots and better competition from the Trojans,” said head coach Jill Lancaster.
Troy's top performer at the meet was Veronica Bryant, who finished fifth in the pentathlon. She took home sixth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.47 seconds), fifth in the high jump (1.60 meters), sixth in the shot put (11.26 meters), second in the long jump (5.49 meters) and 14th in the 800 (2:46.10). She finished the competition with 3,437 points, earning four points for Troy and moving into second all-time in the pentathlon at Troy.
Jasmine Patton and Christina Barrett put together solid runs in the pentathlon as well. Patton won the 55-meter hurdles in the pentathlon with a time of 8:05 seconds and placed fifth in the long jump at 5.39 meters. Barrett took second in the shot put with a toss of 11.98 meters, third in the high jump at 1.69 meters and sixth in the long jump at 5.27 meters. Barrett's high jump ties the all-time record at Troy.
Brynn Forsythe picked up a point for Troy in the weight throw, finishing seventh at 16.13 meters. She also placed 13th in the shot put at 12.25 meters. Nicole Studstill took 16th in the weight throw at 14.53 meters.
“Forsythe stepped up to score in the weight throw, moving in front of several competitors ranked higher than her, finishing seventh,” Lancaster said.
Ja-Courtney Alexander advanced to the finals of the 400-meter dash after completing the prelims in 58.11 seconds. She took sixth in the finals, improving her time to 57.51, earning three points for Troy.
“Alexander finished sixth in the 400, and ran a season-best time in the relay,” said Lancaster.
Morgan Paulson and Julia Ostendorf took 18th and 22nd in the 5k, with times of 18:33.21 and 18:40.52, respectively.
Christina Barrett placed seventh in the high jump with a leap of 1.62 meters, earning one point for Troy. Teammate Bryant placed 10th with an identical jump of 1.62 meters. Alexus Cobb took 17th in the long jump at 5.34 meters, and would go on to finish 15th in the triple jump with a jump of 10.81 meters.
