Trojans Drop Match at Florida Gulf Coast

FT. MEYERS, Fla. – The Troy men's tennis team played the first of its two matches in south Florida this weekend, falling at Florida Gulf Coast, 5-2, in Friday afternoon.

Troy (1-3) had its chances to open the match with the doubles point, but despite having four match points at first doubles, and leading 5-3 at third doubles, the Trojans were swept and Florida Gulf Coast (2-2) took the opening point.

With the second doubles match already going to the Eagles, Troy's Mansingh Athare and Patrick Eichler led at third doubles before falling in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-2). Andre Stabile and Sami Ghorbel also had their chances as they led at first doubles, 7-6, 40-0, but the pair also lost in a tiebreak, 8-7 (7-2).

In singles play, Ghorbel evened the score with a win at fifth singles, 6-3, 6-2, but wins at first and second singles put FGCU back on top 3-1.

Anas Rouchdi kept Troy alive with a win at third singles, 6-4, 6-1, but the Eagles used a tight, straight set win at fourth singles over Troy's Daniel Bustamante, 7-5, 6-3, to clinch the match.

Florida Gulf Coast also won at sixth singles, bringing the final score to 5-2.
