Troy (3-3) is coming off of an 82-67 loss to Jacksonville on Saturday in what was the second game on the current four-game homestand for Troy. The Trojans shot just 23 percent in the second half as JU pulled away late in a game that was close throughout.
Joanna Harden led Troy with 24 points in that game and averaged 38.0 per game in Troy's two contests last week. The Pompano Beach, Fla., native set the Troy and Sun Belt single-game records with 52 points in last Tuesday's win over UAH.
Harden is now averaging 26.3 points per game on the season, the fourth best mark in the NCAA and the best in the Sun Belt. Her 52 points against UAH are the most scored by any NCAA player, across all divisions, this season.
The senior guard is the leading scorer on a team that averages 85.7 points per game, the 12th best mark n the NCAA and best in the Sun Belt. Troy has scored over 80 points three times in six games.
The 3-point shot has been a key for Troy who leads the Sun Belt in 3-pointers made (7.8/g) and 3-point percentage (36.4 percent) and ranks in the NCAA's top 40 in both categories. Brooke Bowie leads the Sun Belt with 15 made 3-pointers (2.5/g) this season. The senior is shooting 42.9 percent from deep, the third best mark in the league.
Florida (5-3) split a pair of games in the Bahamas last weekend, falling to Illinois State before defeating Oregon State, at the Junkanoo Jam. The Gators' other losses this season have come on the road at Virginia Tech and at home to Florida State.
The Gators went 22-15 a season ago, 6-10 in the SEC, and advanced to the semifinals of the WNIT, winning four straight road games to do so.
Troy is hosting an SEC team for the second straight season after Alabama visited Trojan Arena last year. Prior to that game, an 80-71 loss for the Trojans, Troy last hosted an SEC opponent in 1997-98 when Mississippi State came to Sartain Hall for a season opener. Troy won that game, marking the last time the Trojans defeated an SEC opponent.
Troy is 1-1 all-time against Florida. The Gators won last season's meeting in Gainesville, 87-62. Troy's win in the series came in 1979-80 when the Trojans defeated Florida, 82-66, on a neutral court at UT Martin.
