LOGAN, Utah – Utah State got out to a 14-0 lead to start the game and never looked back, taking down Troy, 71-50, in the final game of the 2013 BTI Classic on Saturday night.
"A very good team, very good crowd, and a very good atmosphere in here," said head coach Phil Cunningham. "It was a good opportunity for our team to play a team like that, who has been so successful. I just wish we could have come out and played better in that first half. I wish we could have made some shots."
The Aggies (9-2) got up big early and took a 38-16 lead into the break. Troy (4-7) would cut the advantage to 14 points early in the second half, but the Aggies fought back to expand the lead. The Trojans never gave up on the night, winning the second half, 34-33.
The Trojans shot 29.2 percent (14-of-48) from the field and 10.5 percent (2-of-19) from beyond the arc. Troy improved dramatically from the line, hitting 20-of-24 (83.3 %) attempts.
Antoine Myers led the way for Troy with 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting. Myers was perfect from the line hitting all six attempts. Kevin Thomas also scored in double-figures, finishing with 10 points.
Troy now takes a week off for the Christmas holiday before returning back to action at home on Saturday, December 28, to take on Belhaven at 1 p.m.
