TROY, Ala. – For the eighth consecutive season, the Troy women's soccer team was honored for its academic success, earning the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Team Academic Award.
"It's always great to see the athletes rewarded for their hard work in the classroom," said head coach Chris Bentley. "The team really embodied the idea of a student-athlete, with success both on the field and off."
The Trojans posted a team GPA of 3.30 during the 2012-13. Troy was one of nine Sun Belt schools to receive the honor.
The NSCAA College Team Academic Award is given annually to teams that post a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, on a 4.0 scale. 870 college teams earned the award in 2013, including 597 women's teams. Troy has made the cut in each of Bentley's six seasons, and eight consecutive seasons overall.
Troy had a record-setting season in 2013, as the Trojans recorded their best conference finish in program history. As a team, the Trojans recorded a goals against average of 0.60 in SBC games, the lowest in program history.
Two Trojans earned all-conference honors, as freshman Necee Jennings and senior Madison Winter were honored by the league. Jennings became the first Trojan to make first team All-SBC, while Winter made the second team.
