Harden Named Sun Belt Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS, La. – After scoring 43 points in a win over Evansville, Troy women's basketball senior guard Joanna Harden has been named the Sun Belt Player of the Week. Harden averaged 27.5 points in two games last week and is currently the NCAA's third-leading scorer.
Harden's 43 points against the Purple Aces, in a 94-86 win, marked her second 40-point game of the season. Just two weeks ago Harden broke the Troy and Sun Belt records with 52 points against UAH. She is the only player in Division I basketball, men's or women's, to score 40 points twice this season.
In Troy's Division I history (1993-present), a player has scored 40-plus points in a game three times, with two of those occurrences belonging to Harden in the last two weeks.
The Pompano Beach, Fla., native is the NCAA's third leading scorer at 26.6 points per game. She also leads the Sun Belt in scoring, nearly eight points ahead of second place (18.8 ppg).
Harden isn't contributing just with her scoring. She ranks in the top 10 in 10 of the Sun Belt's 13 listed statistical categories. Harden ranks in the SBC's top 10 in scoring, field goal percentage, 3-pointers, 3-point percentage, free throw percentage, assists, assist-turnover ratio, steals, blocks and minutes.
The player of the week award is the second of Harden's career, and the second in Troy's Sun Belt history (2005-present). Harden won the award last season after scoring 27 points in Troy's upset win over Middle Tennessee.
On Saturday, the Trojans return to the state of Tennessee for the first time since that historic win, when they travel to take on No. 3/3 Tennessee at Thompson-Boling Arena. Tennessee will be the highest ranked team Troy has ever played and the first since the Trojans traveled to No. 5/5 Xavier in 2010-11.
