Final Results
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Troy shot the second best round of the day with a 4-over 292 on the final day of the Eagle/Osprey Intercollegiate at the Deerwood Country Club on Tuesday. The strong finish propelled the Trojans into a tie for fourth place in a field that featured three top 50 teams.
Troy entered the final round in seventh place and ended the day just one shot behind Mercer, who entered the tournament ranked 30th in the latest Golfstat rankings. No. 25 Vanderbilt, who shot one stroke worse than Troy on Tuesday, won the team title by eight shots over Tulsa. No. 48 Southeastern Louisiana finished in a tie with Troy for fourth.
Four of Troy's five golfers on the course Tuesday shot within two strokes of par led by an even-par round from Jared Bettcher. Phillip Brennan and Clayton Vannoy each shot a 1-over 73 and Jake Tucker turned in a 2-over 74.
Brennan picked up his first top 10 finish of the year as he finished tied for ninth after closing out the tournament at 5-over. Tucker and Bettcher tied for 14th place as they finished two strokes back of Brennan. Dozier finished in a tie for 31st, Vannoy tied for 50th and Will Garner, who was competing as an individual finished in 80th place.
The Trojans have completed the fall part of the schedule and will not be in action again until Feb. 23-24 when they play at the John Hayt Invitational in Ponte Verda, Fla.
