Troy (2-0) comes into its third game of the year undefeated for the first time since 2005-06 thanks to a 100-88 win over Florida A&M on Monday at Trojan Arena. The Trojans' 100-point performance pushed their season scoring average to 88.5 points per game, the best mark in the Sun Belt.
The Trojans pressure defense is helping lead to the high scoring numbers as the Trojans are forcing 29.5 opponent turnovers per game, also tops in the Sun Belt. Troy has scored 63 points off of turnovers in its two games, compared to just 28 by the Trojans' opponents.
Troy is being led in scoring by Preseason All-Sun Belt selections Ashley Beverly-Kelley (16.5 ppg) and Joanna Harden (16.0 ppg). All five of Troy's starters scored in double figures against Florida A&M on Monday as Troy closed on a 20-4 run to break open a game that was close throughout.
Tennessee State (0-2) is coming off of a heartbreaking, 70-68, loss at Kennesaw State on Monday. The Lady Tigers led with less than 10 seconds to go, but KSU hit a layup to tie with six seconds remaining and free throws to win with less than a second to go.
Chelsea Hudson led the Lady Tigers with 36 points and 10 rebounds against Kennesaw State and is the only TSU player averaging double figures at 26.0 points per game.
Troy and Tennessee State have never met. Troy is 59-47 all-time against current members of the Ohio Valley Conference, with most of that coming against Jacksonville State (39-22).
