Troy (1-0) is coming off of a season-opening win over Alabama State on Friday, 77-67. The Trojans will be looking to start 2-0 for the first time since 2005-06 when they started 3-0 with three straight wins at Sartain Hall.
The key to Friday's road win over the Hornets was a pressure defense that forced 32 ASU turnovers, the most forced by the Trojans since Troy moved to the Sun Belt in 2005. Troy scored 33 points off of those miscues while Alabama State scored just 17 off of 22 Troy turnovers.
Troy, after leading the Sun Belt in scoring with 70.2 points per game in 2012-13, topped that mark in the season opener with a 77-point performance thanks to a balanced attack.
Four of Troy's five starters were in double-figures, including a team-high 12 points from Preseason All-Sun Belt Joanna Harden who was 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Brooke Bowie (11), Ashley Beverly-Kelley (10) and Kourtney Coleman (10) were also in double figures.
Florida A&M (1-0) also picked up a season-opening win on Friday, defeating Jacksonville at home, 69-64. Jasmine Grice, the MEAC Preseason Co-Player of the Year, led the Lady Rattlers with 16 points on 5-of-19 shooting.
The lady Rattlers posted an 11-19 record a season ago. After starting MEAC play 6-2, Florida A&M went 2-6 down the stretch to finish in eighth place at 8-8.
Like Troy, Florida A&M was picked to finish fourth in the MEAC in 2013-14 and the Lady Rattlers have two Preseason All-MEAC selections in Grice and Kimberly Sparkman.
