LAFAYETTE, La. – Troy soccer closed out the regular season with a 0-0 draw at Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday afternoon in Lafayette, La. With the tie, the Trojans earned the fifth seed in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Championships, where they will face Texas State at 7 p.m.
"I'm really happy with the result today," said head coach Chris Bentley. "We battled through some adversity and took away a point from a quality opponent on the road. Now it's time to prepare for the conference tournament."
The Trojans kept the pressure on throughout the contest, battling with a tough Ragin' Cajuns squad that was looking to earn a share of the Sun Belt regular season title.Â
Troy had a pair of good opportunities late, but Louisiana-Lafayette made two exceptional plays to keep the game scoreless. The first saw Louise Cheng come in alone on a breakaway with under five minutes to play, but ULL goalkeeper Kendall Graham made an outstanding save.Â
The second came on a corner kick just one minute later. Abby Reynolds rose above the Ragin' Cajuns defense to make contact, but ULL cleared the ball off the line to save the game.Â
On the defensive end, Madison Winter was stellar in goal yet again, making nine saves on the way to her fifth shutout of the season.Â
The Trojans now head to the SBC Championships in San Marcos, Texas, beginning on November 6. Troy finished the regular season in a tie with Texas State for fourth with 13 points and will face Bobcats in the first round.
