Trojans Fare Well to Open ITA Regional

AUBURN, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team opened play at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championship on Friday with some of the Trojans picking up wins.
In the main doubles draw, Troy's pair of Lyubov Dorofeeva and Anja Cosovic picked up a first round over Julia Kral and Anatasia Surkova on McNeese State, 8-3. The Troy duo will face Alabama's Mary Anne Daines and Natalia Maynetto in Saturday's round of 16.
Dorofeeva also had early success in the main singles draw, taking a first round win over LSU's Abigail Owens, 2-6, 6-3, 6-0. However, Dorofeeva fell in the round of 32 to Georgiana Patrasc of Mississippi State, the 76th ranked player in the nation. 6-2, 6-3.
Also in the main singles draw, Cosovic dropped her first round match to Ole Miss' Julia Jones, 6-3, 6-2. Cosovic did bounce back in the consolation bracket and defeated Surkova from McNeese State, 6-0, 6-2.
In the B singles draw, Troy's Brooke Durden and Margot De Haan each dropped first round matches. Durden rebounded to win a consolation match. The pair played together in the B doubles draw but lost a first-round match, moving them into the consolation where play will begin on Saturday.
