Trojans Set for Weekend in Texas

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Troy volleyball team will continue Sun Belt play this weekend with a pair of matches in Texas. Troy will first take on Texas State on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and will then travel to take on UT Arlington on Sunday at 12 p.m.

Troy (9-12, 4-3) is coming off of a four-game homestand that ended with three wins. The lone loss of the homestand came to UALR, current Sun Belt leader, in five sets. The Trojans defeated Georgia State and ULM last weekend to cap the homestand.
The Trojans enter the weekend tied for fourth place in the Sun Belt standings with UT Arlington. The Trojans and Mavericks are just a game behind Arkansas State who sits in third place and a game ahead of Texas State and Louisiana-Lafayette.
Marija Zelenovic, the reigning Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week, leads the Trojans with a 3.43 kills/set average, the fourth best mark in the Sun Belt. In Sun Belt play Zelenovic is averaging 3.46 kills/set, ranking fifth in the league, while Blair Winston is averaging 3.35 kills/set, the seventh best mark.
Alexandra Alexander, reigning Sun Belt Setter of the Week, is averaging 10.62 assists/set in Sun Belt play, the third best mark in the league. She is helping the Trojans a .227 attack percentage in Sun Belt play, third best percentage in the conference.
Defensively, Courtney Cohen leads the Trojans with a 4.03 digs/set average. Her 1,841 career digs are just 159 away from making Cohen the first Trojan and fifth Sun Belt player to reach 2,000 career digs.
Texas State (13-9, 3-4) started its first season of Sun Belt play 3-1, but the Bobcats have since lost three straight, all in five sets. The two most recent losses came to Arkansas State and UALR, both at home.
UT Arlington (11-9, 4-3), also in its inaugural Sun Belt season, comes into the weekend tied with Troy for fourth place in the Sun Belt standings. The Mavericks have lost three of four since starting Sun Belt play 3-0.
Troy is 0-1 against Texas State with the lone match coming in 1997 and has never played against UT Arlington.
