Day One Results
ATLANTA – Troy freshman Clayton Vannoy drained a hole-in-one on the par-3, No. 8 in the second round of the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic on Monday at the Berkeley Hills Country Club. The Trojans are in 10th place following two rounds, but are just eight strokes out of fifth.
Phillip Brennan is the leader in the clubhouse for the Trojans after shooting a 3-under-par 141 over the opening two rounds; he is tied for 10th place and just four shots behind individual leader Chase Koepka from South Florida.
Vannoy's hole-in-one, the first of his career, propelled the rookie to a 3-under-par 69 over the final 18 holes of the day. Vannoy opened the day with a 74 in his first collegiate round and is tied for 18th heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes.
Troy shot a 295 as a team in the first round of the day, but rebounded with a 285 in the second round thanks to 3-under-par rounds by Brennan and Vannoy.
South Alabama shot a 563 on Monday and holds a one-stroke lead over South Florida. Georgia State is just two shots behind the Jaguars in third and Chattanooga is one shot by of the host Panthers in fourth. The field includes three top 50 squads in the latest Golfweek rankings, along with 11 teams ranked in the top 100.
Jake Tucker shot a 3-over-par 147 and is tied for 42nd, Tolver Dozier is tied for 58th after carding a 5-over-par 149 and Wil Clowdus rounded out the field for the Trojans in a tie for 71st after shooting an 8-over-par 152.
The Trojans will tee off on the back nine beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. Live scoring for the final round will be available on Golfstat.com.
