Three Trojans in New ITA Rankings

Division I ITA Southern Region Rankings: Women | Men
SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its first rankings of the spring on Thursday, with three Trojans finding their way into the elite list.
On the women's side, senior Karoline Grymel was ranked ninth in the Southern Region singles rankings. Grymel and her partner, junior Lyubov Dorofeeva, were also ranked ninth in the Southern Region doubles rankings.
On the men's side, junior Mansingh Athare cracked the Southern Region singles rankings, coming in at No. 20.
Grymel posted a 5-3 mark in singles play in the fall while battling injury. The Hamburg, Germany native grabbed three of her wins at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional as she advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to a nationally ranked opponent.
An All-Sun Belt singles selection a season ago, Grymel posted a 13-7 mark last spring in dual matches.
As a doubles team, Grymel and Dorofeeva also earned All-Sun Belt honors in 2011-12 as they posted a 14-4 mark in dual matches and found themselves ranked nationally near the end of the season.
This fall, Grymel and Dorofeeva, a Uzbekistan native, posted a 2-4 mark, but both wins came at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional as the two advanced to the semifinals before falling to the 17th ranked duo in the nation.
Athare, a Maharashtra, India native, posted a 5-2 mark in singles play this fall, including two wins in the consolation draw of the USTA/ITA Southern Regional. Athare won all three of his matches to lead Troy at the Southern Miss Fall Invitational.
Last season, Athare posted a 7-13 mark in singles play in dual matches.
The Trojans begin their spring season in just two weeks. The women open at Florida State on January 15 while the men open at Presbyterian on January 18.
