Trojans Head to Jonesboro

TROY, Ala.- The Troy women's track and field team heads to Jonesboro, Ark., this weekend to compete in the Arkansas State Invitational.
The meet will feature several teams including Troy, Arkansas State, Central Arkansas, ULL, and South Alabama.
“We look to build on the momentum of the great start by the combined athletes' performances Wednesday,” said head coach Jill Lancaster. “This meet is especially important as it will be the site of our Sun Belt Indoor Championships this season.”
“We expect everyone to compete hard, but also gain valuable information about the competition facility. We hope to see a few more all-time marks fall,” Lancaster said. “We have just finished our third week of training after the holiday, which has allowed us some special prep workouts. We expect many athletes to start rounding out as well as have some opening their competitive competition season this weekend.”
The Trojans are led by seniors Jasmine Patton, Veronica Bryant and Ja-Courtney Alexander. Patton was Troy's top finisher at the UAB Invitational last weekend, placing third in the 60-meter hurdles. Patton finished the preliminary round with a time of 8.70 seconds and topped that by running the final in 8.66 seconds, a new personal best and the second best time in program history.
Bryant competed in the combined meet pentathlon on Wednesday at Samford University. Bryant placed third with a score of 3255 points. She tied for first in the high jump with a leap of 1.63 meters and finished in third in the shot put with a toss of 10.82 meters.
She also picked up fourth place finishes in the 60-meter hurdles (9.26 seconds) and the long jump (5.07 meters). She placed fifth in the 800-meter with a time of 2:49.67.
Alexander competed in the 200-meter and 60-meter dashes at the UAB Invitational. Alexander finished 25th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.70 seconds. She also finished 29th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.87 seconds.
