TROY, Ala. - The Troy men's and women's cross country teams continue their seasons as they travel to Auburn, Ala., to compete in the Auburn Invitational on Friday. The Trojans will be competing against 11 teams including in-state rivals Auburn and UAB.
“I am looking forward to the meet this weekend at Auburn,” said Troy assistant cross country coach Jeff Jenkins, “We are coming off of a short training week, but we have had the opportunity to make a few adjustments for the upcoming races.”
Enock Kirui led the men's team last weekend at their season opening Troy Trojan Invitational with a third place finish in a time of 28:33.71. Junior Kemper Morton also ran well as he finished fifth with a time of 28:55.57. The men raced an 8k last weekend at their home meet.
Going into this weekend, the women's team will be led by freshman Julia Ostendorf. Ostendorf finished third in last weekend's Troy Invitational meet with a time of 20:53.47. Senior Morgan Paulson and sophomore Haley Davies rounded out the top ten in last weekend's meet and will help lead the Trojans in Auburn. The women ran a 5k at the home meet last weekend.
“As a team, we have a lot on the line for this weekend,” Jenkins said. “Our top seven runners for our next two meets will be determined based on performances this weekend. There will definitely be some intrasquad competition on Friday for those bottom three spots.
“I think everyone is excited to not only race in the cooler temperatures, but also to compete at a shorter distance than the Trojan Invitational this past weekend. After Friday, we will be able to compare results to last year's meet and see how the returners stack up against their 2011 performance and how the newcomers compare as well.”
The women's 4K race will begin at 4:45 pm on Friday at Conway Acre Farms. The women's race will be followed by the men's 6K race beginning at 5:30.
